In a recent CNN article, "Mortality surged for renters facing eviction during the pandemic, study finds" (Deirdre McPhillips, CNN, February 20th, 2024) we learn that the mortality rate among renters who faced eviction was twice as high as expected during the first two years of the pandemic, according to a study published in JAMA. The general population also experienced excess mortality during this time, but the risk started higher for renters and rose exponentially for those threatened with eviction. If the pressure of neo-rentier society in the domain of housing insecurity can shorten your life, just imagine what it means when you extrapolate out to the entire neo-rentier economy, where neo-feudalist elites extract rents/interest on everything, and ordinary people no longer own or produce anything.
